Title_6

We have developed improved collapse grades based on API steel grades, offering enhanced performance with a minimum yield strength of 110 and 125 ksi. ICY grades are also available for enhanced performance in internal yield pressure.

Title_7

Title_7

As well depths increase and high pressures and temperatures dictate material strength requirements, we provide high-strength materials with good fracture toughness and mild sour resistance achieved through controlled yield strength and limited maximum hardness.

Title_8

Higher yield strength in carbon steel can lead to brittleness, even below its minimum yield strength. Our steel composition and heat treatment in deep well (DW) grades are optimized for high yield strength and good ductility, with fracture toughness tested through Charpy testing.

Title_9

High levels of CO2 partial pressure, combined with critical factors like temperature, chlorides, and H2S, can lead to high corrosion rates and cracking in steel. Our 13% Cr alloys and martensitic stainless steels are designed for oil and gas operations in highly corrosive environments where traditional carbon steel may not suffice.

Title_10

For aggressive environments, corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA) with high chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), and nickel (Ni) content are essential. We offer duplex, superduplex, and austenitic stainless steels to combat corrosion in areas with corrosive gases, high temperatures, low pH, and chlorides.

Title_11

In the Neuquina Basin, Petrobras successfully utilized Tenaris’s CRA grades to overcome challenges posed by high CO2 levels during hydrocarbon production.

Title_12

In the Kwanza Basin, Cobalt International Energy employed Martensitic stainless 13Cr steel to combat corrosive conditions in ultra-deepwater operations. This steel is known for its high corrosion resistance and strength, making it ideal for withstanding the harsh environment found in ultra-deepwater drilling. By using this high-quality steel, Cobalt International Energy was able to ensure the integrity and longevity of their equipment, ultimately leading to successful and efficient operations in the Kwanza Basin.

Title_13

In Vietnam, Vietgazprom addressed operational obstacles by using Tenaris’s High collapse grades and sour service steel grades in the presence of H2S, low pH, and high loads.

Steel, a versatile material composed mainly of iron (Fe) and carbon (C), offers over 3,500 grades based on carbon content, alloying elements, and processing methods. Discover the four primary types of steel, classification, grades, and heat treatment techniques.

Title_14

Steel is categorized into four main groups:

Subtitle_10

Carbon steel grades, classified by carbon content, include:

  • Low carbon steels – up to 0.3% carbon
  • Medium carbon steels – 0.3–0.6% carbon
  • High carbon steels – over 0.6% carbon

These steels are commonly used in large quantities for structural applications.

Subtitle_11

Alloy steels, combining steel with alloying elements, offer enhanced properties and are available in various grades for specific performance requirements.

Subtitle_12

Stainless steel grades, alloyed with chromium and other elements, provide high corrosion resistance, making them ideal for outdoor use and electrical applications.

Subtitle_13

Subtitle_13

Tool steels, containing elements like tungsten and molybdenum, excel in cutting and drilling equipment for industrial use.

Title_15

Steel can be classified based on composition, finishing method, production technique, microstructure, physical strength, de-oxidation process, heat treatment, and quality nomenclature.

Title_16

Steel grades are determined by intended use, affected by cooling rates and heat treatment methods. The ASTM Grade System uses metal letter prefixes, while the SAE System utilizes four-digit numbers to denote steel type, alloying elements, and carbon concentration.

Steel grading standards are essential for ensuring material quality and consistency, aiding in effective communication of steel properties among various professionals and guiding manufacturers in suitable processing and application procedures.

Considering chemical composition, treatment, and mechanical qualities, steel grading systems play a vital role in categorizing steel grades based on microstructure, influencing properties such as strength, ductility, hardness, and corrosion resistance.

Understanding microstructure and its modification through forming and post-manufacturing processes is crucial, as heating and cooling processes impact microstructure, thereby determining material characteristics.

Microstructures like ferrite, austenite, pearlite, cementite, and martensite impact steel properties differently, allowing for the optimization of steel properties through various heat treatments such as spheroidization, annealing, normalization, quenching, and tempering for specific applications.

With different steel grades catering to diverse needs, there is no one-size-fits-all “best” grade. Popular steel series include carbon steels, stainless steels, tool steels, and alloy steels.
